Tulane Splits on Final Day of ASICS Classic
Mar 21, 2026 | Women's Beach Volleyball
MALIBU, Calif. – The Green Wave beach volleyball team wrapped up its stint on the west coast by splitting two duals Saturday at the Pepperdine Beach Courts in the ASICS Classic. After falling to No. 8 Loyola Marymount (LMU) 4-1, Tulane closed out the weekend by beating Concordia University Irvine (CUI) 3-2. Tulane moves to 14-8 on the campaign. Though the Wave's seven-dual win streak was snapped against the Lions, Tulane has claimed eight of its last nine match-ups.
Â
Molly Trodd and Skylar Ensign were the lone Wave tandem to claim a win over LMU, sweeping the top flight 21-18 and 21-14. The fourth pair fell 21-19 and 21-16 before pair two lost both sets by a score of 21-18. After Trodd and Ensign got Tulane on the board, the Lions claimed the dual with a 21-18, 21-17 win at No. 3. The contest closed out with the fifth pair, which LMU won 21-17 and 21-13.
Â
Tulane fell behind early to CUI as the Golden Eagles won the second flight via sweep, 21-13 and 21-18. They then claimed No. 4 in three sets. Avery Burks and Gigi Gallegos won the opening set 21-18 before CUI rallied for 21-13 and 15-11 wins to pull ahead 2-0 in the dual. The Wave responded with authority from there, not dropping a set the remainder of the dual. McKenzie Cutler and Sam O'Connor put Tulane on the board with a 21-13, 21-11 sweep at the fifth flight. Trodd and S. Ensign swept once more at the top flight, 21-13 and 21-10, to tie the contest at 2-2. The dual came down to the third flight, which Amirah Ali and Tawny Ensign dominated with set wins of 21-11 and 21-11 to clinch the contest for Tulane.
Â
After an off weekend next week, Tulane returns to action with the Longhorn Showdown on April 3 and 4. The two-day tournament is hosted by the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, and the Wave will open on Friday, April 3, against Houston Christian at 10:00 a.m. before battling the host Longhorns that afternoon.
