Tulane’s Brito Receives Contract Extension
May 13, 2026 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS — Tulane University Ben Weiner Director of Athletics Chair David Harris announced the extension of head women's tennis coach Maru Brito's contract on Wednesday.
Brito has guided Tulane to 97 dual victories since arriving in Uptown, including 11 this spring as the program began play in the inaugural season of Goldring Tennis Center.
The Green Wave is coming off a season that saw all-conference sophomores Campbell Ricci and Summer Chandler secure a combined 60 singles and doubles victories. The duo joined Tulane in fall 2024 as top 30 recruits.
Ricci's impressive freshman season included a 14-2 spring record at No. 1 singles, earning her American Conference Freshman of the Year and all-league honors. That fall also saw Ricci and Chandler become the first Tulane singles players since 2002 to reach the quarterfinals of the ITA Southern Regional Championships. Additionally, the team recorded ranked wins over Tulsa, UTSA, and Princeton in the spring.
"We are thrilled to extend Coach Brito's contract as our head women's tennis coach," said Harris. "Her exceptional leadership and dedication to student-athlete development over the years has truly elevated Tulane women's tennis. We're excited to see what the future holds under her continued guidance."
Brito, who just finished her ninth season as the program's head coach, is now under contract through the 2027-28 season.
"I am incredibly grateful to Athletic Director David Harris and (Deputy AD for External Operations and Women's Tennis Sport Administrator) Jana Woodson for their continued support and trust in my leadership," Brito said. "It's a true honor to be part of Tulane, and I look forward to building on our successes and working with our talented student-athletes to reach new heights."
The Green Wave also celebrated academic success this week, with four student-athletes—Natalia Fantini, Natalia Perez, Micah Pierce, and Leigh Van Zyl—earning CSC Academic All-District honors.
