Jun 10, 2026 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS — Tulane University announced the addition of Whitley Pate to its women's tennis team on Wednesday. A talented and dedicated athlete from Daniel Island, South Carolina, Pate brings a wealth of experience and a competitive edge as a graduate transfer to the Green Wave.
Pate, who attended LTP Academy, began playing tennis at the age of four. Over the years, she has achieved numerous milestones, including reaching 100 career wins in her senior year of high school. Known for her powerful forehand that sets up her game, Whitley has demonstrated her skill and resilience on the court through her impressive record and competitive spirit.
During her collegiate career at Wake Forest, Pate made significant contributions across multiple seasons. In her freshman year (2023), she battled through injuries to appear in 23 matches, earning key victories and contributing to Wake Forest's doubles success. Her sophomore year (2024) saw her finish third on the team in combined singles wins, with notable performances in ACC play. In her junior year (2025), she continued to improve, securing 13 singles wins and leading her doubles team with 18 victories alongside teammate Anna Zhang. As a senior (2026), she tallied four fall victories with doubles partner Eva Oxford to reach #68 in the ITA rankings, reaching the quarterfinals of the ITA Carolina Regional in October.
A proud product of Daniel Island, South Carolina, Pate's journey in tennis has been marked by perseverance and passion. She has a keen competitive drive and a desire to grow both on and off the court. Her strengths, including her work ethic, dependability, and team-oriented attitude, fit perfectly with Tulane's vibrant culture.
"I chose Tulane because of the incredible coaches, the welcoming environment, and the opportunity to be part of something special in New Orleans," Pate said. "I am excited to contribute to the Green Wave both on and off the court and to grow as a player and person."
Beyond tennis, Whitley plans to pursue a Master's in Business Analytics and AI, reflecting her ambition to excel academically as well as athletically. She describes herself as hardworking, dependable, and caring — qualities she aims to bring to her new team and community.
"We are thrilled to welcome Whitley to our program," said Tulane head coach Maru Brito. "We have known her family for more than 10 years, so this is a very special moment for all of us. Whitley brings a wealth of experience, a strong competitive mindset, and outstanding character. We are excited for the immediate impact she will make both on and off the court, and we can't wait to see her journey as part of our team. ROLL WAVE!!"
When not competing, Whitley enjoys cycling, spending time with friends, and walking her dog. Her favorite tennis player is Roger Federer, and she loves watching the Credit One Charleston Open. Her favorite food is sushi, and her pre-match ritual involves listening to hype music to get pumped for competition.
