Skylar Ensign Named CUSA Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Jun 25, 2026 | Women's Beach Volleyball
DALLAS – Conference USA announced today its scholar-athletes of the year across all sports sponsored by the league, and Tulane's Skylar Ensign was honored as the CUSA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for beach volleyball. Ensign's recognition marks the third-straight academic year in which a Green Wave beach volleyball player has claimed the award with Sam Green securing the prior two. Since joining CUSA entering the 2023 campaign, a Tulane student-athlete has won the award in beach volleyball in three of the four seasons the Wave has been in the conference.
"We are extremely proud of the way Sky has been leading herself and our team throughout her journey here at Tulane," said head coach Eyal Zimet. "The dedication, intrinsic drive, passion, and intentionality are evident within each day of Sky's journey, and we are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it. Lots be achieved and strived for! Roll Wave!"
Ensign is fresh off a historic season with Tulane, in which she helped the Green Wave claim the 2026 CUSA championship, a program first. Tulane made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, entering as the No. 14 seed before falling in round one to eventual national champion UCLA. Ensign was 29-9 on the campaign between the top two flights, earning 17 victories at No. 1. She tallied five ranked wins this season with four coming at the top flight.
A junior from Laguna Beach, California, Ensign adds yet another honor to an already impressive resume in 2026. Academically, she has been named CSC Academic All-District and garnered the CUSA Commissioner's Academic Medal and Honor Roll. The latter two awards she has claimed three years in a row. Athletically, she received AVCA Top Flight recognition for both flights one and two. As part of Tulane's conference title, Ensign was one half of the CUSA Pair of the Tournament with Molly Trodd, and she earned All-CUSA First Team recognition for a third-straight campaign.
Ensign is a communications major with a GPA of 3.8. Beyond her success on the sand and in the classroom, Ensign works as a sideline reporter for Tulane men's basketball and indoor volleyball broadcasts and with LHSAA high school football state championship games. She also serves as a color commentator for New Orleans high school volleyball. Furthermore, Ensign is heavily involved in the community, as she has tutored children with Cultivating Youth and planted trees to preserve the bayou ecosystem with Sustain The Nine.
