Tulane Bowling Alumni Spotlight: Jessica Cwik

The Tulane bowling alumni spotlight series continues as this month's subject is 2012 graduate Jessica Cwik. A former player and coach for the Green Wave, Cwik earned a pair of master's degrees from Tulane University and was a member of the 2011-12 inaugural Green Wave team. Cwik is currently a special education social worker within the Jefferson Parish School System.

After earning a bachelor's degree from Marquette in 2011, Cwik chose Tulane for graduate school in part because of the city of New Orleans and the community. The timing could not have been better, as Cwik came to Uptown just in time to be a part of the first-ever Tulane bowling squad. During her lone season on the squad, Cwik was the team MVP and earned an all-tournament honor. Being a part of the first team was her favorite thing about being with the Wave, alongside contributing to the continued success of the program as a coach later on.

Though she only bowled for one season in 2011-12, Cwik returned to the Big Easy to work alongside her former head coach Hayley Veitch as an assistant. During her eight seasons on staff, Cwik helped elevate the program to a nationally-prominent top-15 position, including the program's highest ranking ever of No. 6 during the 2018-19 campaign. Cwik helped coach the program's first All-American and assisted in leading the team to its first-ever home tournament win.

Cwik graduated after her only season as a bowler with a master's degree in social work. She added another master's in public health in 2020 during her penultimate season as a coach. Since leaving the coaching staff, Cwik has excelled in her new career path, making a difference in the New Orleans area as a special education social worker. She chose to make that career change because she wanted to influence young children and help create a positive school environment.

Currently residing in Metairie, Cwik is getting married this year. As she continues to make a difference in New Orleans after her combined nine years with the Tulane bowling program, Cwik's biggest takeaway is that flexibility and adaptability are key qualities that can help in any area of life. Her biggest advice to current and future Wave bowlers is to "enjoy the experience and know that your coaches truly care about you and your future."
