Tulane Men Begin Season Ranked No. 22
Sep 2, 2026 | Cross Country
NEW ORLEANS – With the start of the 2026 cross country campaign just days away, the Tulane men's program received a boost by securing the 22nd spot in the preseason United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll as announced Tuesday afternoon. Earlier this week, both the Green Wave men's and women's programs checked into the top three of their respective South Sentral Region rankings.
The Tulane men's team received 95 voting points in the preseason USTFCCCA poll to place 22nd, edging out No. 23 Air Force and its 92 points. This initial ranking comes after the Wave concluded last season at No. 21 after finishing 21st in the NCAA Championships. Tulane was the runner-up in the American Conference and won the South Central Regional, a historic program first.
Tulane is one of only two American schools in the preseason top 25, joined by Tulsa at No. 18. However, the Wave edged out the Golden Hurricane in the American preseason coaches poll as revealed yesterday with Tulane selected as the preseason favorite to win the league title. The Wave last claimed the men's championship in 2024.
In the South Central Region rankings as announced earlier this week, the Tulane men checked in at No. 2 behind only Arkansas, who was slotted No. 15 in the national poll. The Wave women's squad also notched a top-three regional ranking with their selection at No. 3. They sit behind just Arkansas and Texas A&M. The Razorbacks are No. 19 nationally with the Aggies also receiving votes.
The Tulane women's squad is fresh off its second American title in three seasons. They were also tabbed atop the American preseason coaches poll yesterday, marking a clean sweep for the Wave.
In just two days' time, the 2026 season will get underway as Tulane hosts the Battle for New Orleans on Friday, September 4. The event takes place at Lake Oaks Park and is cohosted by crosstown foe and newly rebranded LSU New Orleans. The women's 4,000m race kicks off the meet at 5:15 p.m. with the men's 5,000m race following at 5:45 p.m.
