Tulane Women Start Strong in Houston

HOUSTON, TX – The Tulane women's tennis team wrapped up a strong weekend at the Rice Invitational in Houston, earning a combined 25 wins in singles and doubles action across all three days of competition.
When all was said and done, Natalia Perez won her singles flight. Summer Chandler and Whitley Pate did the same in their doubles competition.
The Green Wave opened Friday by sweeping their four first-round doubles matches. Diana Badalyan and Delanie Tribby, Elisabeth Braathen and Natalia Fantini, Summer Chandler and Whitley Pate, and Natalia Perez and Campbell Ricci made up the four teams. In the second doubles round, Tulane added three more victories as Badalyan/Tribby, Chandler/Pate, and Ricci/Perez each won 6-4.
Tulane also collected six singles wins Friday. Tribby, Chandler, Ricci, Braathen, Fantini, Pate, and Perez all had strong performances, with Braathen rallying from a set down and Perez recording a 6-0, 6-0 blanking.
On Saturday, Pate/Chandler and Braathen/Fantini each earned a 6-4 doubles win. In singles, Perez, Ricci, Tribby, and Badalyan picked up victories, with Badalyan winning a three-set battle.
Tulane closed the invitational on Sunday with five singles victories. Fantini rallied for a three-set win, while
Perez, Pate, Chandler, and Badalyan each won in straight sets.
