Football’s Maurice Turner Honored By The American Conference

IRVING, TX – The Tulane football team saw redshirt senior running back Maurice Turner recognized by the American Conference with his selection as the Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Sept. 28.
Turner carried the ball 12 times for 200 yards and two touchdown with a long of 74 in the comeback 24-21 victory over Southern Miss. His second touchdown rush of the game put the Green Wave ahead for good with just over five minutes remaining in the contest. Turner sported an average of 16.7 yards per carry becoming the third Tulane running back all-time to average 15+ yards per carry on at least 10 attempts (Jimmy Hodgins vs Sewanee on 11/21/31 & Jaylin Lucas vs. South Alabama on 9/12/26). He is just the second player to ever run for 200 or more yards at Yulman Stadium history (Jaylin Lucas – 214 – 9/12/26). Turner's 74-yard TD run in the fourth quarter was the second-longest rush for a Tulane player over the last four seasons, behind Lucas' 80-yarder. He also was the first Tulane player with three rushes of 40+ yards in same game in over 20 years.
The selection was the second weekly honor by the league office for a Tulane football player this season. He is the first Tulane player to be named the league's Offensive Player of the Week since Jake Retzlaff last season (11/10/25).
