Tulane Bowling Alumni Spotlight: Hailee Hammond

NEW ORLEANS – The latest installment of the Tulane bowling alumni spotlight series is also the final before the start of the 2026-27 Green Wave campaign. Last but not least is Hailee Hammond from the class of 2019. Hammond walked on to the team in 2016 and bowled three seasons with the Wave before earning her degree in major cell and molecular biology.

A native of Bowie, Maryland, Hammond's story with the Wave has a unique beginning. Midway through her freshman year in 2015-16, she walked on to the program and proceeded to bowl six games during the 2016 second half of the season. A two-year letterwinner over three campaigns, Hammond bowled in 23 games with a career best of 279 against Franklin Pierce during her final season in January 2018.

With bowling not an immediate factor in determining where to attend college, her decision boiled down to other variables with Tulane University still standing out. "It was my warmest option when I was picking where to go to college, and I visited the campus and fell in love," Hammond said.

After joining the bowling team a semester into her time at Tulane, Hammond forged even more bonds and found more to love about being a member of the Green Wave. Her favorite thing about Tulane quickly became her teammates. And those bonds turned into success on the lanes with the Wave reaching a high national ranking of No. 6 during Hammond's time on the squad.

Beyond bowling, Hammond excelled in the classroom. She earned her degree in major cell and molecular biology in just three years, graduating in 2019. She didn't stop there, remaining at Tulane for post-graduate studies and recently graduated from the Tulane School of Medicine earlier this year in May 2026. After a decade in New Orleans and multiple successes both on the lanes and in the classroom, Hammond's next stop is the nation's capital where she will be an OBGYN resident physician at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

"I wanted to be in a field that centers and empowers women, and getting to be present for the miracle of life coming to the world is a great perk," said Hammond of her career path.

Hammond is a prime example of what being a Tulane student-athlete is all about. And she credits her time as a bowler with providing several skills that have helped her beyond athletics to this day.

"Knowing how to be a good teammate has continuously helped me succeed since graduating, and those are skills I was really able to hone as a bowler," said Hammond.

She would like to leave current and future Green Wave bowlers with this advice: "Bowling can feel so serious and like your entire world while you're in it, but at the end of the day remember that you are playing a game and it's meant to be fun. Please don't forget to have fun."

The 2026-27 Tulane bowling season is in sight, beginning this weekend in Fort Worth, Texas. The Green Wave will compete in the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference (SWIBC) I and II October 1 and 2. Tulane then returns home to host the annual Colonial Lanes Classic next weekend, October 9 to 11, at Colonial Lanes in Harahan, Louisiana.
