Tulane Bowling Alumni Spotlight: Madison McCall

The Tulane bowling alumni spotlight series continues to roll along as the latest featured alumnus is Madison McCall from the class of 2022. A five-year bowler for the Green Wave, McCall earned her bachelor's degree in 2021 and a master's degree in 2022, both in chemical engineering, while also securing four All-America nods as a competitor.

A native of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, McCall joined the Tulane bowling team entering the 2017-18 season. As her successes both on the lanes and as a chemical engineering major prove, her decision was based on the combination of strong academics and bowling success that Tulane possessed. "From the second I stepped on campus and met my coaches, teammates, support staff, and professors, I had no doubt Tulane was going to be the best place for me," McCall said.

Beyond the academics and bowling, McCall ultimately fell in love with the community and culture. She described the Tulane community as tight knit, and embracing the New Orleans culture became one of her favorite things about Tulane. Further compounding on the community feel, the bonds and memories she shared with her teammates meant a tremendous amount to her. The travel as a group led to so many fond memories, including strike hats, amusement park trips, and even a trip to Las Vegas for the Team USA trials.

This all manifested into tremendous success for McCall, both on and off the lanes. McCall earned four All-America Honorable Mention honors throughout her five-year Tulane career, which saw her lose a season of action to the COVID-19 pandemic. Those four All-America honors remain the most by a single Wave bowler ever. She also garnered a second-team all-conference selection and was named Tulane's 2021-22 Female Athlete of the Year.

McCall earned two chemical engineering degrees from the highly prestigious Tulane University, first her bachelor's in 2021 followed by a master's in 2022. Still living in New Orleans, she is now a chemical process engineer for Bayer, a natural career path to select. "I always knew I wanted to be in a science/math related field and found myself leaning towards a career in engineering prior to college, so I went for chemical engineering while at Tulane," she said. "My interest in problem solving and analytical thinking led me to become a chemical process engineer."

Since graduating, she married her husband, Justin Goings, in January 2025, and the couple have a dog named Finley. Now Madison Goings, she also picked up running and last year completed her first marathon.

For (McCall) Goings, the biggest takeaway from her time as a Tulane bowler was the ability to communicate and work successfully in a team environment. As facets that are key to success in athletics, she noted her experiences from bowling have aided immensely in her life post college. She harps on similar thoughts in offering her advice to the next wave of Tulane bowlers:

"Always stay positive and driven; the mental side of the game is so important. Set goals and stay committed to them. Learn how to lean on your teammates and coaches when things get hard."

The 2026-27 Tulane bowling season is rapidly approaching. The campaign begins October 1-2 with the SWIBC I and II in Fort Worth, Texas. Tulane then hosts the annual Colonial Lanes Classic the following weekend from October 9-11 at Colonial Lanes in Harahan, Louisiana.
