2005: Played in 11 games with eight starts at defensive end. Collected 17 tackles (six solo), including five tackles for loss. Had three solo tackles, including two for loss and his lone sack of the year, against SMU (9/24). Notched season-bests of four tackles against both UTEP (10/14) and Navy (11/5).
2004: Played in all 11 games, starting the final nine at defensive tackle. Tallied 26 tackles (10 solo), two sacks and five pressures. Matched his career-high with five tackles (one solo) against Houston (10/30). Recorded his first career interception against Army (11/13), lumbering 18 yards for the longest interception return of the year for the Wave. Added four takedowns (three solo), including a sack against East Carolina (10/9). Closed the year with four stops (two solo) against nationally-ranked Louisville (12/4).
2003: Played in all 12 games, including eight starts at defensive tackle. Recorded multiple tackles in the final 11 games to finish with 42 stops, Taurean Brown (continued)
including 23 solo. Credited with a career-high five tackles (four solo) in the win over Army (9/20). Also had five takedowns while forcing a fumble against Memphis (10/25). Registered his first career sack against Mississippi State (9/13) and added another in the Texas game (9/27). Ranked fifth on the team with six quarterback hurries.
2002: Redshirted the season.
HIGH SCHOOL: Number 60 on Rivals[apos] 100 list of top defensive linemen. Recruiting analyst Max Emfinger named him one of the Top 45 defensive linemen in the nation. Listed as one of the top 177 national defensive linemen by Fortune Football Recruiting Center. One of the Top 10 defensive linemen in the Greater Houston Area. All-Region honoree by Prep Star. Three-year starter at Cinco Ranch. Also lettered in basketball and was an honorable mention all-district choice in 2000. Member of his school[apos]s honor roll from 1999-2001. A National Merit Scholar Finalist and a member of the National Honor Society.
PERSONAL: Full name is Taurean Michael Brown. Born December 15, 1984, in Louisville, Ky. The son of Gary and Paula Brown. His father played basketball at Louisville, and his grandfather, Harry Sykes, played basketball at Kentucky State and with the Harlem Globetrotters. His uncle, Kermit Sykes, played football at Vanderbilt, as well as in the NFL. Majoring in legal studies. Named to the Conference USA Commissioner[apos]s Academic Honor Roll for 2002-03.
