NEW ORLEANS - Cox Sports Television (CST) and Tulane Athletics will kick off an expanded television partnership with "Green Team Week," a week-long look at some of the best Tulane Athletics moments in recent history. "Green Team Week" begins Monday, May 19th, with special Tulane programming running every evening in prime time through Friday, May 23rd.
Events already on the "Green Team Week" schedule include Tulane's 36-28 victory over Hawai'i in the ConAgra Foods Hawai'i Bowl this past Christmas, and the Green Wave's Liberty Bowl win over BYU in 1998 which secured the school's perfect season. Other games in the sports of men's and women's basketball and baseball will be added over the next several days. During breaks, Tulane coaches, student-athletes and former student-athletes will be featured in public service announcements asking fans to "Join the Green Team." The Tulane Athletics Ticket Office in the James W. Wilson Center will remain open during the programming to take season ticket orders and/or donations to the Tulane Athletics Fund at 504-861-WAVE.
"We are excited to see our relationship with Tulane grow" stated Cox Sports Television head Rod Mickler. "Tulane fans throughout the Gulf Coast will enjoy seeing more of the Green Wave on CST and we look forward to many great years ahead with our partnership."
"Green Team Week" is part of Tulane's "Think Green" campaign, a massive fundraising and ticket sales effort designed to mobilize support for Tulane's Division I-A athletics program.
Cox Sports Television also announced that, beginning in 2003-04, the network will be the home of "Tulane Sports Today," the weekly Tulane Coaches' Television Show featuring football coach Chris Scelfo and men's basketball coach Shawn Finney. The 30-minute show airs from September through March each year.
The CST-Tulane relationship will extend to game broadcasts next season as Cox Sports Television, an affiliate of ESPN Regional Television, has access to all Tulane and Conference USA games aired on any of the network's regional partners. In all, CST expects to broadcast a minimum of 10 Green Wave football and men's and women's basketball events in 2003-04.
"I can't think of a better way to begin our partnership with Cox Sports Television than Green Team Week," said Tulane Athletics Director Rick Dickson. "We appreciate the support we're receiving from CST and look forward to seeing our coaches' shows and other Tulane events on the network over the upcoming year."
Dickson will make a guest appearance to talk about Green Team Week and the new relationship between Tulane and Cox Sports Television on CST's broadcast of the New Orleans Zephyrs'-Fresno Grizzlies on Friday, May 16th at 7 p.m.
