June 5, 2003
NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University Department of Athletics had record exposure via newspapers and the internet during the month of May, according to figures tracked by the Tulane Media Relations Office.
The official website of the Tulane athletics program, www.TulaneGreenWave.com, posted amazing numbers for the month of May. The site's 1,404,403 page views during the month is an increase of 527 percent over May of last year. The previous record for page views on the site was 433,791 in September of 2002.
In addition, the web site had 70,803 unique visitors during the month, topping the previous high by over 17,000 visitors.
While the internet received unprecedented visits in May, the Green Wave also posted a record 111 stories on the Tulane NewsStand, a web site feature which gathers online news articles from around the country in one location for easy browsing by Wave fans. Previously, the most articles in one month for Tulane was 95 in October of 2002.
Since the NewsStand's inception, in August of last year, 745 stories have been posted at the site, an average of over 74 stories per month and nearly two and a half stories per day.
To access the NewsStand, visit www.TulaneGreenWave.com and then find the link for "Tulane NewsStand" located along the right side of the page. Simply click that link and fans can read all about the Green Wave.
TulaneGreenWave.com has now had nearly 500,000 unique visitors this year (since July). Last year, the site had just 325,000 unique visitors.
The overall jump in attention for the Green Wave is attributed to the amazing support which Tulane has received since a review of athletics was announced by the Tulane administration in late April. In addition, the Green Wave baseball team hosted the Conference USA Tournament and advanced to an NCAA Regional at LSU.
