Tulane University Strength and Conditioning Internship Positions
The Internship program with the Tulane University strength and conditioning department proves to be valuable in that you have the opportunity to be a part of one the most recognized academic and athletic programs in the country while assisting elite level student-athletes and develop the hands-on skills to start a successful career as a collegiate strength and conditioning coach. Student interns must be committed to the field of strength and conditioning and it is important to exhibit professionalism, integrity, a very strong work ethic, a positive team-oriented attitude, passion, and the willingness to learn throughout the entire duration of the internship. The student intern will learn to establish him or herself as a strength and conditioning professional to not only student-athletes, but to all coaches and administrators as well.
The experience gained during this non-paid internship includes but not limited to:
- The intern will have an ample work load to ensure a complete understanding of the profession that will benefit both the intern and the staff.
- Administrative duties as assigned by the staff to help the intern learn the daily setup, maintenance, and upkeep of the facility. Duties will increase in intensity according to the intern's understanding of said duties and his/her initiative and trust in completing them.
- Teach proper techniques for Olympic lifts, strength and power lifts, mobility and movement prep, core, and speed and agility development exercises.
- Motivating student-athletes to achieve their maximum potential in all areas of performance.
- Participating in staff meetings and discussion as well as reading articles, books and watching DVD/Videos to enhance training knowledge.
The internship evaluation will be based on feedback provided by the Tulane strength staff and his/her institutional evaluations (as applicable). By understanding and adhering to the internship expectations outline and being diligent in following through on the professional development opportunities, the prospective intern can assume a positive experience. As a staff, we will work hard to make the internship experience positive and expect the same in return. Please note the deadlines for the seasonal internships.
