The Awards
Tulane quarterback J.P. Losman collected a host of awards following his senior season with the Green Wave. The California native earned Second Team All-Conference USA honors as well as Honorable Mention All-Louisiana recognition. In addition, Losman was one of seven finalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award given to the top senior quarterback.
The Record Book
Losman set the Tulane career record for lowest interception percentage (INTs per attempt) with a mark of 2.73 (27 INTs in 987 attempts). He finished his career ranked in the Top 10 in 18 categories, including third in TD passes (60), completions (570) and passing efficiency (129.81). In addition, he ranks in the top four on 13 different lists after just two seasons as a full-time starter. He also ranks in the Top 10 all-time in Conference USA in 10 different passing and total offense categories.
The Stats
Losman completed 251-of-422 passes for 3,077 yards and 33 touchdowns as a senior. He led Conference USA in passing and touchdown passes and his 33 touchdown strikes are the second-highest total in Tulane history. It was just the third 3,000-yard passing season in Green Wave history. In each of the Wave's 12 games, he threw at least one TD pass.

Going Deep
J.P. Losman was successful with the long ball in 2003, completing passes of 50 yards or more in five different games. In the season finale against East Carolina, he hit Chris Bush in stride for a career-long 87-yard touchdown pass, the second-longest completion in Tulane history and the fourth-longest in Conference USA history.

Losman has garnered plenty of preseason attention of his own as he has been rated at the top of the NFL's scouting service rankings for senior players. Losman and Ole Miss quarterback Eli Manning are projected as the top two senior quarterbacks in the nation. Last summer, Losman was featured in an article in ESPN The Magazine.

While Mewelde Moore and Roydell Williams join Losman as the "stars" in the Tulane lineup, Losman had no qualms delivering passes to other players. In 2003, #7 has completed passes to 14 different players. Williams led the way with 66 receptions while Moore came out of the backfield for 39 catches. In addition, Losman found nine different players for touchdowns. Williams registered a team-best nine, followed by Chris Bush with eight and Tristan Smith with five. Moore caught four TDs while Bubba Terranova collected three. Nick Narcisse had a pair of TD receptions, while Carl Davis, Jerome Landry and Fred Smith have caught one.
Back-to-Back-to-Back-to-Back
Quarterback J.P. Losman joined his predecessors, Patrick Ramsey and Shaun King, as the only TU players to record back-to-back 300-yard passing days in the first two games of the season and then added to the streak with 300 yards in each of the next two games. Losman is the first player to accomplish the feat in the first four games of a season. The record for consecutive 300-yard games is five by Ramsey between Sept. 11 and Oct. 16, 1999.
Practically New
An impressive aspect of Losman's impressive statistics in 2003 was the fact that he did it with a very young offensive line. For most of the season, Tulane has started an O-line composed of four sophomores and a redshirt freshman in Derek Rogers at right tackle. All told, the five had just 26 starts between them entering the season. Rogers, center Joe Traina and guard Donald Madlock had not started games prior to 2003. Guard Matt Traina (twin of Joe) and tackle Chris McGee both have started 25 consecutive games dating back to the first game of last year.
Losman Goes Long Against TCU
J.P. Losman recorded both the longest pass and longest rush of his Tulane career (to that point) versus TCU while passing for 303 yards on a 25-of-42 night. Losman hit Roydell Williams with a 68-yard completion in the fourth quarter and later in that quarter picked up 36 yards on his career-long rush.
In-Season Honors
Losman entered the season with his name on a pair of preseason "Watch Lists." The senior signal-caller was a candidate for both the Davey O'Brien Quarterback Award as well as the Johnny Unites Golden Arm Award. In addition, Losman won a pair of weekly honors this season. Following his amazing fourth-quarter against Mississippi State, the senior was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. Then, after matching a school record with five touchdown passes against Army, Losman was honored by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association as its Offensive Player of the Week for the state.
