The Sociology of Sport Tulane Student-Athlete Study Abroad Program
Tulane University’s Sociology Department and Athletics Department and the study abroad organization service provider, Student-Athletes Abroad, have created a joint study abroad partnership to enhance the overall academic experience of Tulane student-athletes. Given that many Tulane student-athletes are participating in athletics year-round, we wanted to create an impactful study abroad opportunity in the small time window they have during the summer. We wanted to create this program to afford them the same opportunities that many of their non-student-athlete peers are afforded. When surveyed, 89.6% of our student-athletes had not had an opportunity to study abroad and 93.2% would like to study abroad.
Proposed Summer 2022 Location: Intense Orientation in New Orleans; Sydney, Melbourne, and Cairns, Australia
