Ben Thomas joined the Green Wave staff as a graduate assistant for offense in 2019. A three-year letterwinner at offensive guard at the University of North Alabama, Thomas has previous coaching experience at the college and high school level.
Before joining Tulane, Thomas was a graduate assistant offensive line coach at North Alabama from July 2017 to the spring of 2019. While working with the Lions, Thomas assisted in game planning and practice scheduling, helping the offensive coordinator recognize fronts, blitzes and coverages from the opposing defense. He was responsible for recruiting potential student-athletes in Northwest Alabama and Northeast Mississippi. He also monitored student-athletes’ academic progress.
Prior to his time with the Lions, Thomas was the offensive line and tight ends coach at Mars Hill Bible School in Florence, Alabama during the 2016 season. Thomas helped Mars Hill to its first winning season in school history, aiding the Panthers to an offensive increase of five points over its 2015 total.
Thomas has also worked the North Alabama Wing-T Offense Camp in 2016, teaching football fundamentals, run blocking and pass blocking techniques. He was a volunteer assistant line coach at Central High School in Florence, Alabama, before that, helping the Wildcats on the offensive and defensive line in 2016.
A three-time Gulf South Conference Champion at UNA, Thomas was also a Spring 2015 Scholar Athlete.
