Chris Watt begins his first season as Tulane’s new offensive line coach in 2021.
Watt arrives Uptown after spending the 2020 season as a graduate assistant at Notre Dame during the 2020 season, where he assisted with the offensive line.
The Irish finished last season with a 10-2 record and a trip to the College Football Playoff. Notre Dame’s offensive line finished as the 2020 Joe Moore runner-up: an award given to the most outstanding offensive line unit in college football.
Prior to his work at Notre Dame, Watt was a mainstay on the camp circuit. He helped develop high school recruits across the Midwest and Pennsylvania. Watt also worked as the director of business development at Array Sports and Entertainment in Chicago.
During his playing days, Watt started at left guard for Notre Dame in 2011, 2012 and 2013. In the 2013 season, he alongside his offensive line compatriots only allowed eight sacks.
Watt played 47 straight games and started 34 consecutive games during his career with the Irish.
The Glen Ellyn, Ill., native was the recipient of the Pietrosante Award, given to the best student-athlete who demonstrated courage, loyalty, teamwork, dedication, and pride that resembled the late Irish fullback.
Watt received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Marketing and a minor in Anthropology from Notre Dame.
Watt was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the third round of the 2014 NFL draft. He played 17 games in his professional career and started eight. He retired from the NFL due to injury in 2017.
