Trey Godfrey, a former Tulane defensive back, is in his third season as the Green Wave's defensive graduate assistant. In that role, he aids in opponent scouting, computerized film breakdown and recruiting, while working closely with the defensive backs.
A native of Baton Rouge, La., Godfrey was the Green Wave's starting nickel back in 2001. He played in 10 games and was named Tulane's Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against Army.
Godfrey earned his bachelor of science degree from Tulane in exercise and sports sciences and will complete his master's degree in liberal arts in December. His 3.76 GPA lifted him to the Dean's List for the 2001-2002 school year. He was also named to the Conference USA Academic Honor Roll during his senior year.
A 1997 graduate of Baton Rouge's Episcopal High School, Godfrey was a three-sport standout for the Knights. He led the team to a district championship in football in 1996 and a track state championship in 1997. He remains the school record-holder in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the 400- and 800-meter relays.
Godfrey, who serves as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle leader at Tulane, is single and lives in Metairie.
