Career Notes: Four-year letterman completed 61-of-145 passes (.421) for 599 yards, two touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and caught one pass for seven yards during his career... played in 23 games with two starts...also played four years on the baseball team where he has appeared in 54 games with a 2.53 ERA, five wins, 13 saves, 56 strikeouts and 41 walks.
2012: Started both games he played in as a senior...ranked second on the team in pass attempts (83), completions (35), passing yards (333), touchdown strikes (2) and yards of total offense (297)...posted career highs with 44 pass attempts and 21 completions while throwing for 160 yards and a score vs ULM (9/29)...threw for a career-best 173 yards while completing 14-of-39 passes with a touchdown at Louisiana-Lafayette (10/6).
2011: Saw action in seven games as a junior...finished second on the team in pass attempts (48), completions (18) and passing yards (214)...posted season highs by completing 12-of-33 pass for 126 yards vs UTEP (10/15)...completed 4-of-7 passes for 75 yards, including a career-long 34-yard toss, at Duke (9/24).
2010: Played in five games as a sophomore...finished third on the team in both completions (8) and pass attempts (14) while sitting fourth in passing yardage (52)...tallied season highs by completing 4-of-6 passes for 36 yards vs UCF (11/20)...completed 2-of-5 passes for 12 yards vs Army (10/9).
2009: Saw action in nine games as a redshirt-freshman...made collegiate debut vs BYU (9/12) when he caught one pass for seven yards...also served as the holder on special teams, holding for 14 PATs and seven field goal tries.
2008: Did not play as a true freshman...redshirted the season.
High School: Three-year letterman at Catholic High where he saw action at quarterback and wide receiver for coach Dale Weiner...helped lead the Bears to a combined 38-4 record, three state district titles and a trio of trips to the playoffs - including semifinal berths as a sophomore and junior...played primarily wide receiver as a senior when he hauled in 11 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns...also lettered in baseball where he was an all-state pitcher and catcher last season after going 9-2 from the mound in addition to handling catching duties...off the field, received honorable-mention academic all-state honors and was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Personal: Born Donald Eugene Ponder, Jr. on Oct. 29, 1989, in Baton Rouge, La...son of Donald Sr. and Suzanne Ponder...has two sisters: Ashley and Holly...father, Donald, played football at Idaho and Louisiana Tech...completed his degree in political science in May 2013.
