2020-21: Helped Tulane finish as the national runner-up at the ICSA Women's Championship Regatta sailing alongside crew Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez in the B Division races… Part of a Green Wave team to finish ninth in the Navy Spring Fleet Race, sailing with fellow skipper Thad Lettsome and crews Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez and Quinn Keenan.
2019-20: Helped the Green Wave to a second-place finish in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Regatta, sailing skipper alongside crews Lydia Brown and Kara Scully in the C Division races to finish seventh among 18 total teams…Finished seventh in the B Division races at the Women’s Showcase Qualifier, alongside Brown and Scully, to help Tulane finish 9/16 overall…Finished 15/18 in the B Division races alongside Brown, helping Tulane finish 15th overall among the nation’s top teams in the Jen Harris Women’s Showcase Championship…Finished second overall in the Coed Showcase Tournament, going 5/17 in the A Division races alongside Giblin…Finished sixth among a competitive slate of opponents in the ICSA Match Race National Championship, sailing alongside crew Asher Zittrer…Helped the Green Wave to a fourth-place finish of eight teams in the Nelson Roltsch Team Race, sailing alongside skipper Kit Stoll…Helped Tulane to an eighth-place finish in the Bob Bavier Team Race, sailing alongside skipper Quinn Keenan…Finished ninth of 16 in the A Division races in the Charleston Spring Coed, sailing alongside crews Brown and Quinn Keenan to help the Tulane to a seventh-place overall finish.
Before Tulane: Benson comes to New Orleans from Oxford, Maryland, where she grew up sailing at Tred Avon Yacht Club before sailing with LISOT in the C420 and I420 classes from 2016 to 2018. Benson earned multiple top 25 finishes as a skipper in both regional and national regattas – including C420 North Americans, C420 Nationals, Buzzard’s Bay and Hyannis Regattas – while also competing as a crew in the 2018 I420 World Championships. Serving as a skipper for the St. George’s School sailing team, the incoming freshman helped her team to multiple NESSA Championships in fleet and team racing while earning the NESSA Women’s Championship title in 2017. In her final season in Rhode Island, Benson was awarded MVP honors when St. George’s women’s team won the NESSA Women’s Team Race Championship.
