Prior to Tulane: Shimkus was a B finalist at Winter Juniors in 100 back and the state champion in 100 back. She is a four-time All-American, a six-time All-State selection, and a three-time CSL all-conference recipient. She led off her 2023 high school state winning 200 medley relay and helped the team get second in the 400 free relay that same meet. At Winter Juniors, Shimkus helped the 200 free relay obtain fourth place and finish the NCSA in second. She had multiple top 10 state finishes and holds three different meet records.
