Andrew Alvarez joined Tulane Athletics in August 2017 as Director of Video & Broadcasting and was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director in 2021.
In his current role, Alvarez oversees all aspects of broadcast and streaming production for the Green Wave. During his time at Tulane, he played a key role in leading the development of a multi-million dollar on-campus video control room, which was completed in 2021. This centralized facility connects Tulane’s basketball, baseball, and football venues, streamlining production operations across sports.
Alvarez also led Tulane’s transition into broadcasting on ESPN+ in 2020, following the American Conference’s new media rights deal with ESPN. This marked the first time Tulane produced broadcasts for the platform. In February 2023, Tulane broadcast it's first game for linear television (ESPNU) originating from the on campus control room.Â
Under his leadership, Tulane’s broadcasts have earned national recognition from the SVG College Sports Media Awards in association with NACDA, which honor the best in college sports video production.
Tulane captured awards in 2025 for Collegiate Athletics – Championship Division (Men’s Basketball: Tulane vs. Rice)
in 2023 for Collegiate Athletics – Championship (Men’s Basketball: Tulane vs. Cincinnati)
and in 2022 for Collegiate Athletics – Athletics-Supported (Baseball: Mississippi State vs. Tulane).
Before joining Tulane, Alvarez spent a decade at WHNO-TV 20 in New Orleans. There, he was instrumental in rebuilding the station after it suffered total loss during Hurricane Katrina. In his final year at WHNO, he oversaw the production of more than 75 sports shows and game broadcasts. He also played a pivotal role in designing and building a video production truck for the station.
In addition to his work at WHNO, Alvarez has worked as a freelance video professional for several prominent organizations, including the New Orleans Saints, New Orleans Pelicans, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and the Essence Music Festival.
A lifelong native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Andrew currently resides in the city with his wife and two cats.
