Shyan Mwai joined the Tulane women's basketball staff during the spring of 2024 as the team's Assistant Coach/Video Coordinator.
Mwai joined the Green Wave after having worked on the staff for Coach Langford at Stony Brook for the 2023-24 season as the team’s video coordinator.
She played four seasons at Iona University before transferring to Long Island University for her graduate campaign.
She accounted for 7.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 28.2 minutes per game during her four year career at Iona. She earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors two different times during her freshman campaign in the 2018-19 season, finished with a career high 8.8 points per game in the 2019-20 season, and made a career high 24 starts in her final season following the shortened season in 2020-21 due to COVID-19. The guard averaged 7.3 points per game and had a career best 43 assists and 62 rebounds. In the classroom, she earned MAAC All-Academic Team honors.
During her one season at LIU in 2022-23, she appeared in all 29 games, with 19 starts, and averaged 7.4 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.4 rebounds per game during her 21.2 minutes per game. She also collected NEC Commissioner's and NEC Winter Academic honor rolls for her performance in the classroom.
The Lowell, Massachusetts, native was a standout student-athlete at Lowell High School for four years. She scored nearly 2,000 points over her four year varsity high school career and was named her school’s Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018. The captain for three years, Mwai was a two-time All-League honoree, MVP, and graduated as all-time leading scorer in school history (boys or girls).
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Iona in 2022.
