NEW ORLEANS - Tulane track and field performer Edrige Darling was named the Conference USA men's co-Athlete of the Week for his record-setting effort last weekend.
Darling, a junior from Kingston, Jamaica, set a new school record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in winning the 400-meter hurdles at Saturday's Seminole Twilight Meet in Tallahassee, Fla. Darling ran a time of 50.26, which is the fastest C-USA time of the season, to top a field of 10 and break his existing school record by more than half a second.
It is the first time in his career that Darling has earned this honor. He is the third Green Wave track performer to earn C-USA Athlete-of-the-Week honors during the 1999 outdoor track season, joining senior Amos Kipyegon and junior Lana Garner.
Darling and his teammates will next be in action at the 1999 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which begin Thursday in Milwaukee, Wis.
