Tulane Track and Field Teams Named USTFCCCA All-Academic, Seven Athletes Honored

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced today its 2026 NCAA Division I men's and women's All-Academic Athletes and Teams. Both the Tulane men's and women's track and field squads were honored alongside seven total Green Wave athletes, two men and five women.
The Wave women's team posted a cumulative GPA of 3.54 with the men sporting a mark of 3.49. In order to qualify for all-academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.
Seven total Tulane athletes were recognized, including two from the men's program and five from the women's team. The men honored were Rogerio Amaral and Bernard Cheruiyot. Amaral is a native of Coimbra, Portugal, and is an anatomy major. Amaral was recently named American Conference Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Cheruiyot is a native of Eldoret, Kenya, and is an exercise science major. Cheruiyot was a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honoree just last month. Both Amaral and Cheruiyot were named all-academic by the USTFCCCA upon the conclusion of the 2025 cross country campaign.
The five honorees from the women's program are Nahema Dumonteil Cabanas, Sofie Groeninger, Jasper Newton, Cara Salsberry, and Presley Wolfe. Dumonteil Cabanas is a native of Merida, Yucatan, majoring in neuroscience. Groeninger, a native of Anzing, Germany, is majoring in economics. This is not Groeninger's first academic honor of the season as she was also named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. An electrical engineering major, Newtown hails from Long Island, New York. Salsberry is working on a master's degree in business analytics and is from Boynton Beach, Florida. Rounding out the honorees is Wolfe, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, who is majoring in legal studies in business.
In order to qualify for all-academic honors, student-athletes must possess a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have completed at least two semesters at the nominating institution. Furthermore, the student-athlete must have finished the indoor season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event or in the top 48 in any championship relay event and/or participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The seven honorees boast a combined four American Conference medals between them for the 2026 indoor and outdoor seasons. At the indoor conference championships, Wolfe took home silver in the pole vault while Dumonteil Cabanas was a part of the silver-medalist distance medley relay squad. At the outdoor conference championships, Salsberry claimed a pair of bronze medals in the hammer throw and discus. Amaral and Salsberry each competed in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East First Round.
