New Orleans - Conference USA Champion Tulane and the AXA/Equitable Liberty Bowl reached an agreement Saturday that sends the undefeated Green Wave to the Memphis-based postseason game, pending its release from consideration for the Bowl Championship Series. Since Tulane is currently one of 17 schools being considered for one of the four BCS bowls, the Green Wave must be released from the BCS before formally accepting its invitation to play in the Liberty Bowl.
"Tulane is very excited about its bowl possibilities," said Green Wave Athletic Director Sandy Barbour. "It's been a long time since the Green Wave family has been able to enjoy a moment like this, and we plan on making our return to postseason play an event to remember."
Tulane's last bowl trip was to the 1987 Independence Bowl. By virtue of its undefeated league record, Tulane earned the automatic Liberty Bowl bid that goes to the Conference USA champion.
