Tulane Track & Field Continues Strong Run

NEW ORLEANS - As the Tulane track and field team prepares for the Miami/Gatorade Track and Field Classic this weekend in Coral Gables, Fla., it does so coming off its strongest weekend of the season.
Led by Lana Garner, the Green Wave women finished third at last weekend's Alabama Relays and provisionally qualified athletes in four events to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Garner, a junior from San Diego, Calif., won the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:07.30 to top a field of 89 runners. Her time was six-tenths of a second faster than the second place finisher and provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Garner was also a part of Tulane's 4x400-meter relay that provisionally qualified as well. The quartet of Angela Milner, Charlotte Plummer, Quasheba Lee and Garner posted a school-record time of 3:38.14.
Also provisionally qualfiying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships was junior Hanne Lyngstad. She won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:18.38, topping the field by almost eight seconds. Lyngstad's time was just 38 one-hundredths of a second shy of an automatic qualifier.
In all, the Green Wave women earned two individual wins, won three relays (Distance Medley, 4x400 meters, 4x800 meters) and set three school records last weekend.
The news was also good for the men, as the squad provisionally qualified an individual for the NCAA Outdoor Championships and set a school record in the 4x400-meter relay.
Senior Amos Kipyegon finished second in the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:43.83 to provisionally qualify for the Championships. He has qualified for NCAA Championship competition in each of the last two seasons.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Alexander Lakhanpal, Justin Robinson, Carlton Davis and Edrige Darling set a new school record by posting a time of 3:12.47.
Following this weekend's competition in Coral Gables, Tulane returns home to host the Tulane Invitational at Tad Gormley Stadium on Sat., April 10.
