NEW ORLEANS, La. - - UNC Charlotte's Jill Currie connected on a free kick 13 minutes in, and the 49er defense made the lead stand up, as the Tulane women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to UNCC at the New Orleans Storm Soccer Field on Sunday.
Tulane falls to 6-3-0, and 1-3-0 in Conference USA play with the loss, while UNCC improves to 7-2-0, 4-0-0 in league action. The 49ers have yet to surrender a goal in Conference USA play.
UNC Charlotte scored the only goal of the match at the 13:11 mark thanks to a free kick just outside the Tulane penalty area. Meredith Mayo started the play by pushing the ball wide to Currie, who blasted home a shot from the right side of the penalty area.
Tulane's best chance came 15 minutes from full time when Mandy Schumacher's shot beat UNCC goalkeeper Jennifer Howell only to roll just wide of the left post.
UNC Charlotte held a 17-6 advantage in shots, marking the first time this season that the Green Wave has been outshot. The 49ers also held an 8-1 margin in corner kicks. Tulane goalkeeper Jaclyn Urso posted six saves, while Howell recorded five in the UNCC nets.
The Green Wave are back in action this coming weekend, as Tulane travels to face league rivals Houston and Saint Louis.
