Kandie Leads Tulane Cross Country at Regionals

DENTON, Texas - Junior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) finished sixth of 129 runners to lead Tulane University's men's cross country team to a sixth place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship on Saturday at Eagle Point Golf Course.
Kandie clocked a time of 31:22.25 in the 10,000 meter run. The winner was TCU's Eluid Njubi in a time of 30:46.19.
The Tulane men's team tallied 167 points in the event. Arkansas won the event with 45 points, followed by Texas (91 points), Baylor (141), Texas A&M (159), and Tulane.
In the women's race, Tulane was led by senior Hanne Lyngstad (Elverum, Norway), who earned a 10th place finish at 21:04.19 over the 6,000-meter course. The winner of that contest was Arkansas' Larissa Klienmann at 20:06.59.
Texas A&M won the women's event with 52 points, followed by Arkansas (68 points), and TCU (89). Tulane did not have a team score in the women's event as only two Green Wave runners participated. Junior Katrina Gemmel (Palmerston North, New Zealand) finished in 35th place of the 119 participants.
Following Kandie for the Wave men's team were juniors Anthony Lagat (Eldama-Ravine, Kenya) and Peter Lotich (Kapsabet, Kenya), who finished 24th and 33rd, respectively. Junior Meshack Mulupi (Kilimambogo, Kenya) and freshman Adam Leskis (Spokane, Wash.) closed out the scoring for the Green Wave.
On the women's side, senior was also impressive, earning a third-place finish with a time of 21:32. Junior Katrina Gemmell (Palmerston North, New Zealand) finished 15th, while junior Lyndie Galka (Ft. Stewart, Ga.) and freshman Carlyne Pradieu closed out the scoring for Tulane.
