Baseball Falls To Aztecs

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane (2-1) baseball team dropped its first game of the season as San Diego State (6-5) rallied in the ninth inning and defeated the Wave 8-5 on Sunday afternoon.
The Green Wave held a 4-3 advantage heading into the top of the ninth, but it wasn't enough as San Diego State scored five runs, including a two run homerun, to solidify the Aztec win. Ben Rosenthal led off the inning with a double to center field and scored the first of five runs on a Sean Pierce single. Pinch hitter Chad Redfern collected a game high two RBI with his homerun to right field.
Tulane closer Brandon Belanger fell to 0-1 on the season as he pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up five runs. Starter Dan O'Gara went 6 1/3, gave up one run and struck out five before being replace by freshman Matt Foster in the seventh.
Rory Shortell picked up his first win of the season. Shortell went 2 innings walked to and gave up one run.
Green Wave designated hitter Matt Groff was 2-for-4 with one run, while Aaron Feldman was 1-for-2 with two runs, one RBI and drew three walks.
The Green Wave hosts McNeese State on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
