NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Florida International swept all three doubles matches to claim a 6-3 win over the Tulane women's tennis team at Goldring Stadium on Sunday.
After entering doubles play even at 3-3, FIU claimed wins at all three doubles spots to rally past Tulane. The Golden Panther duo of Anneliese Rose and Mariana Faustinelli posted a hard-fought 9-8 win over the Tulane team of Anna Monhartova and Jessica Kessler at the No. 1 spot. Florida International clinched the win at No. 2 doubles, when Maria Montoya and Marine Nizri recorded an 8-2 win over Tulane's Joyce Bergman and Maiko Cook. At the No. 3 doubles spot, the FIU duo of Alexandra Guzman and Nazly Elsawaf posted an 8-6 victory over Julie Morris and Anneli Axsater.
In singles play, FIU's Anneliese Rose posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Anna Monhartova at the No. 1 spot, before the Wave's Maiko Cook evened the score with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Alexandra Guzman at the No. 2 position. Tulane took a brief 2-1 lead when Julie Morris recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win over Maria Montoya in the No. 3 singles match. FIU surged ahead with wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions. Mariana Faustinelli claimed a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Jessica Kessler at the No. 4 spot, while Marine Nizri was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Anneli Axsater at the No. 5 spot. The Green Wave evened the scores when Molly Rollauer claimed the No. 6 position match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Nazly Elsawaf.
Tulane returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 17, as the Green Wave play host to Fresno State at Goldring Stadium. Match time is set for 12 p.m.
