NEW ORLEANS, La. - - The Tulane women's tennis team bested No. 61 Houston, 8-1, Saturday at Goldring Tennis Center.
Tulane dominated single play, winning four of the six matches in straight sets and taking a 6-0 lead going into doubles play. No. 1 Anna Monhartova, No. 3 Julie Morris, No. 5 Jessica Kessler, and No. 6 Molly Rollauer, each won their matches in straight sets. No. 2 Maiko Cook, after losing the first set of her match 4-6, came from behind to beat Joanna Cunliffe of Houston 7-5, 6-2 in the final two sets of their match. No. 4 Anneli Axsater won her match by winning the third set, 6-2, after splitting the first two sets, 7-6, 4-6.
In doubles play, Tulane won two of the three matches to close out the scoring, 8-1. At No.1 doubles, the Houston team of Galina Seliounina and Mette Sigmundstad def. Tulane's Maiko Cook and Olga Mikhailova, 8-4. Tulane's Monhartova and Kessler def. Cunliffe and Jen Baccaroni, 9-8, at No. 2 doubles and the team of Julie Morris and Joyce Bergman took the No. 3 doubles match from Houston's Annie Rapp and Kailey Meisingev, 8-2.
Tulane returns to action on Monday, as the Green Wave take on Harvard at the Goldring Tennis Center on the Tulane campus. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
