NEW ORLEANS, La. - - The Tulane women's tennis team posted a 6-3 win over Eastern Michigan at the Goldring Tennis Stadium on Tuesday.
The Green Wave took an early lead, claiming four of six singles matches. Tulane's Maiko Cook rallied from a set down to post a 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 win over Lisa D'Amelio at No. 2 singles, while the Wave's Jessica Kessler was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Agnieszka Tokarczvk at the No. 3 position. Tulane also got a win from Anneli Axsater, as she posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Manuela Todorova at the No. 4 spot. Joyce Bergman gave Tulane its fourth singles win, claiming a 6-3, 6-1 decision against Eastern Michigan's Lizaan Joubert at the No. 6 spot. EMU did claim wins at two single matches, as Rebecca Hawkins was a 0-6, 6-2, 7-6 winner over Anna Monhartova at the No. 1 spot, while Aina Kalervo posted a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 win over Molly Rollauer at the No. 5 spot.
Tulane clinched the victory in doubles play. The Wave needed just one victory out of the two double matches, but picked up two wins to be certain. Monhartova and Kessler were 8-3 winners over Joubert and Todorova at the No. 2 spot, while the Tulane duo of Cook and Axsater recorded an 8-3 victory over Tokarczvk and Christy Helsinger at the No. 3 position. The EMU doubles tandem of Hawkins and D'Amelio took the No. 1 doubles match with an 8-6 win over Tulane's Bergman and Olga Mikhailova.
Tulane returns to action on Saturday, March 4, as the Green Wave travel to Nashville, Tenn., for a meeting with Vanderbilt.
