HATTIESBURG, Miss. - - The Tulane women's tennis team swept all six singles matches and all three doubles events en route to a 9-0 win over Conference USA rival Southern Mississippi on Thursday.
Anna Monhartova gave Tulane the No. 1 singles spot with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Almut Gaude, while Maik0 Cook battled back from a set down to post a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 win over USM's Caroline Weems at the No. 2 spot. The Wave's Jessica Kessler won the No. 3 battle with a 7-5, 7-6 victory over Patrica Kundisova, while freshman Julie Morris looked impressive in a 6-3, 6-2 win over USM's Jackie Prew at the No. 4 position. Anneli Axsater was a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 winner over Shawny Price at the No. 5 position and Joyce Bergman wrapped up singles play with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Marie Lindberg at No. 6.
In doubles action, Tulane's team of Cook and Bergman were 8-6 winners over Weems and Gaude at the No. 1 position, while Kessler and Monhartova teamed to give Tulane an 8-3 victory over Kundisova and Prew at the No. 2 spot. Morris and Axsater gave Tulane the No. 3 win with an 8- victory over Price and Lindberg at the No. 3 spot.
Tulane returns to action on Friday, as the Green Wave travel to face Mississippi State in Starkville.
