Gautreau Propells Wave Over McNeese State

LAKE CHARLES, La. - Jake Gautreau's two home runs coupled with a solid Green Wave defense gave Tulane (9-7) the lift it needed to overcome a late game rally by McNeese State (15-6) to win 9-8 on Wednesday.
After six innings the game was tied at four runs each until Gautreau hit an eighth inning lead off home run to give the Wave a 5-4 advanatge. In the top of the ninth, Gautreau hit his first career grand slam to put the Wave up 9-4. McNeese put up a fight in the bottom of the ninth as they scored four runs, but Green Wave pitcher Barth Melius ended the Cowboy attack and picked up his first save of the season.
Tulane starter Henry Bonilla improved to 3-1 on the season as he went eight innings and scattered eight hits. Bonilla gave up six runs and struck out a game high four.
Gautreau lead the Wave at the plate as he went 3-for-5 with seven RBI and two home runs. His home run in the eighth was the first home run given up by the McNeese pitching staff at the Cowboy Diamond this season. Andy Cannizaro was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
Pat Stark (1-1) got the loss for McNeese after going two innings of relief and giving up two runs. McNeese's Ran Prince was 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Tulane begins a three game series with Manhattan College on Friday, March 10. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
