BATON ROUGE, La. - - LSU took four of six singles matches and two of three during doubles play to post a 6-3 win over the Tulane women's tennis team on Wednesday.
With the win, LSU improves to 12-7, while Tulane falls to 11-7 with the loss.
LSU jumped out to an early lead by winning four of six singles matches. Bruna Colosio, ranked 11th nationally, posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Tulane's Anna Monhartova at the No. 1 spot, while LSU's 68th-ranked Ana Paula Mores was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Maiko Cook at the No. 2 position. Fernanda Tsucamoto gave LSU a 3-0 advantage with her 7-6, 7-6 win over Julie Morris at the No. 3 spot. LSU also got a win from Lauren Haddix at the No. 5 spot, as she recorded a 6-4, 7-6 win over Tulane's Annelie Axsater.
Tulane did claim a pair of wins during singles play. Jessica Kessler won her ninth straight match and her 13th in her last 14 attempts, with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Tami Botts at the No. 4 spot. Joyce Bergman also picked up a win for Tulane, recording a 6-2, 6-2 win over LSU's Mandy Rice at the No. 6 singles match.
LSU clinched the match in doubles play. Needing just one win to secure the dual match victory, the Lady Tigers posted wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The 10th-ranked LSU duo of Colosio and Mores were 8-0 winners over Tulane's Olga Mikhailova and Morris, while the LSU tandem of Botts and Tsucamoto posted an 8-2 win over Tulane's team of Cook and Bergman. Monhartova and Kessler teamed to give Tulane its only win in singles play, posting an 8-3 win over LSU's Amy McIlhaney and Lauren Haddix.
Tulane closes out the home portion of its 2000 schedule on Saturday, as the Green Wave play host to TCU at the Goldring Tennis Stadium. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m.
