
Men's Tennis Falls at NCAA Tournament

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - - UL Lafayette used the opening doubles point to post a 4-3 win over the Tulane men's tennis team in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Texas A&M on Saturday.
The Ragin' Cajuns (15-6) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The ULL tandem of Eduardo Gordilho and Michal Jordan claimed an 8-5 win over Tulane's Esat Tanik and Mikko Viljanen at No. 1 doubles, while Bernard Kaczorowski and Bruno Puzzi were 8-4 winners over Tulane's Jon Monk and Derya Rose at the No. 3 spot.
Tulane (15-11) fought back, however, picking up a pair of points in singles play. Tulane's Tanik posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jordan at the No. 3 spot, while the Wave's Christoph Ortner registered a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Puzzi at the No. 4 singles match. ULL came back with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Osvaldo Biffe turned in a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win over Mattias Westerberg at the No. 5 spot, before Kaczorowski used a pair of tie-break wins to defeat Tulane's Jon Monk, 7-6, 7-6.
Trailing ULL by a point, 3-2, Tulane evened the match with Dennis Lundberg's victory at No. 1 singles. The senior battled from a set down to claim a 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 win over Gordilho to tie the dual match score at 3-3. The Cajuns claimed the match, however, when Jakub Ilowski turned in a 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 win over Viljanen at the No. 2 spot.
With the win, ULL advances to meet hosts and fourth-ranked Texas A&M on Sunday.
