Tulane Baseball Falls To Southern Miss, 10-9

ST.PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Tulane (37-20-1) Green Wave baseball team suffered a 10-9 loss to Southern Miss (31-25) and was eliminated from the 2000 Conference USA tournament on Thursday morning.
This is the first time since joining Conference USA the Green Wave has been eliminated from the tournament in just two games.
A 9-7 Tulane lead through six innings was erased as the Golden Eagles scored three runs in the seventh. All three of the Southern Miss runs were scored with two outs. Josh Hoffpauir sent in the first run on a sacrifice bunt and Darren Welch followed with a two RBI single.
USM pitcher Charlie Rogers (8-5) held the Wave to just one hit through 5 1/3 innings and picked up his eighth win of the season. He walked six and struck out none.
Tulane's Jared Berkowitz (12-3) got the loss after replacing starting pitcher Henry Bonilla in the fourth. Berkowitz went 4 1/3 innings gave up four runs and struck out five.
Tulane's Mickey McKee recorded a team high two RBI and scored one run. Jay Heintz was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
