CINCINNATI, Ohio - - Cincinnati scored a pair of goals five minutes apart in the first half to post a 3-1 win over the Tulane women's soccer team at Meyers Field on Sunday.
Cincinnati improved to 6-4 with the win and now stands at 3-1 in Conference USA play, while the Green Wave dropped to 5-5 overall, 2-2 in league action.
The Bearcats opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Jen Meiners headed in a Tiffany Ogden free kick. Kim Jedlo increased the UC advantage just five minutes later, picking up an errant back-pass and converting a long-range shot from the right side of the field. Cincinnati added a third goal in the second half, as Odgen scored on a free kick of her own in the 64th minute.
Tulane pulled a goal back in the 69th minute with a goal from Stephanie Donaldson. Jaclyn Benjamin sent a free kick into the Cincinnati penalty area, where Colleen Lake headed the ball back across the box to Donaldson. Donaldson's one-touch volley found the back of the net to cut the Bearcat lead to 3-1.
Megan Stack nearly scored again for the Wave, but her 77th-minute effort was well saved by Cincinnati goalkeeper Christy Hoffman.
Tulane returns to action next weekend, as the Green Wave play host to C-USA rivals Memphis and UAB at the McWilliams Athletic Complex on the Tulane campus.
