FORT WORTH, Texas - - Tulane women's tennis standout Joyce Bergman lost her Round of 32 match at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southwest Regional Tournament on Saturday. The tournament is being held at TCU's Bayard Friedman Tennis Center.
Bergman dropped a 6-3, 7-6 decision to Texas A&M's Ashley Hedberg in the third round. Bergman was seeded 10th in the 128-player field, while Hedberg was seeded 23rd. Bergman had cruised through her first two matches of the tournament, opening with a 6-0, 6-3 win over McNeese State's Joanna Tyreus before posting a 6-3, 6-3 win over Anna Yenyk of UL-Monroe in the second round.
Bergman was a second-team All-Conference USA selection last season after helping the Green Wave win its first-ever Conference USA Tournament title. She won nine of her final 12 matches and was undefeated at the C-USA Tournament. Bergman also helped the Green Wave win its first-ever NCAA Tournament match, coincidentally against Texas A&M.
