BATON ROUGE, La. - Senior Solomon Kandie (Nairboi, Kenya) won his third individual title in four races as he led Tulane University to victory in the nine-team LSU Invitational Saturday morning.
The Green Wave women took third place behind a second-place overall finish by sophomore Eva Lustigova (Liberec, Czech Republic), who covered the 6,000-meter course in 21:51.13.
In the men's race, Tulane tallied 31 points to top McNeese State's 46 points and host LSU's 48. Nicholls State (128 points) and UL-Lafayette (132) rounded out the top five, while Southeastern Louisiana (156), Carson-Newman (207), UNO (239) and Xavier (244) closed the field.
For the women, LSU took first-place honors with 45 points with McNeese State in second with 65, followed by the Green Wave's 80 points. UL-Lafayette (81), Nicholls State (133), UNO (143), Carson-Newman (147), Xavier (235) and Southeastern Louisiana (237).
Kandie's time of 25:02.66 over the 8,000-meter course edged LSU's Likhaya Dayile, who was second in 25:08.65. Freshman Erik Emilsson (Bjarred, Sweden) earned third place in 25:44.16, while junior Anthony Lagat (Eldama-Ravine, Kenya) took fifth place.
Following Lustigova for the Green Wave women were senior Katrina Gemmell (Palmerston North, New Zealand), who was in fourth place and senior Lyndie Galka (Fort Stewart, Ga.) in 16th place.
The Green Wave returns to action next Saturday at the Southeastern Louisiana Invitational.
