DALLAS, Texas - Freshman Michael Kogan (Kfar Saba, Israel) upset the nation's No. 2 ranked player, but it was not enough for Tulane University as the Green Wave fell, 4-2, to Southern Methodist University in men's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon.
Kogan, who has not lost a match this spring, defeated Genius Chidzikwe, 6-1, 7-5, at his top flight singles match. Kogan is ranked No. 41 in the nation, while Chidzikwe holds the No. 2 ranking.
Tulane (4-4), ranked No. 41 in the nation, could not capitalize on Kogan's success, however, as the Mustangs pulled away for the victory. Sophomore Victor Romero (Mexico City, Mexico) also won in singles action, with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 comeback victory at No. 4 over Alexis Rudinski, ranked No. 92 in the nation.
SMU (7-0) remains undefeated and ranked No. 12 in the country. The Mustangs won at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 in straight sets, while holding on for a three-set win at No. 4.
Doubles matches were not played.
Tulane returns to action on Thursday, playing at another national powerhouse, No. 4 TCU.
