Men's Tennis Stopped by No. 22 Notre Dame

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Tulane University was defeated by Notre Dame, 4-0, in first round action at the Blue-Gray Men's Tennis Classic on Thursday afternoon.
Notre Dame (10-2), ranked No. 22 in the nation, won four singles matches to clinch the victory. The remaining singles matches were suspended and doubles action was not played due to weather conditions. Tulane (5-6) is ranked No. 44 in the nation.
Green Wave freshman Michael Kogan (Kfar Saba, Israel), the team's No. 1 player and the No. 44 player in the nation, lost, 7-5, 7-5. Kogan has been battling an arm injury and did not play in the team's last match.
Freshman Jorge Lievano (Bucaramanga, Colombia) and sophomore Mattias Westerberg (Lulea, Sweden) dropped their singles matches at No. 4 and No. 5, while senior Derya Rose (Greenwich, Conn.) fell at No. 6 singles.
Sophomore Victor Romero (Atizapan, Mexico) held a 7-6, 5-2 lead at No. 2 singles before the match was suspended. Senior Mikko Viljanen (Vantaa, Finland) trailed at No. 3, 6-4, 4-6, 2-3.
Tulane returns to action at 3:30 Friday afternoon against the loser of the Rice/Wake Forest match.
