NCAA Tournament
Tulane Pre-Tournament Quotes
Tulane Head Coach Lisa Stockton:
(opening)
"We're excited to be here. This is a tremendous experience for our players. I think we've gotten better as the season has progressed. The NCAA always sends us to places with great basketball environments. We've been to Texas Tech twice, and the Big 12 has been involved in some way in five of our seven NCAA appearances (Lubbock 1995, Boulder 1996, vs. Kansas 1998, Lubbock 2000, Ames 2001)."
(on defense)
"We've spent a lot of time on our defense. We didn't feel that we could score 80 points per game this season. The shot-blocking ability of our three post players is really an added dimension to our game."
(on conference respect)
"I don't think that Conference USA gets the individual respect it deserves. We have a lot of great players in our league. Sometimes that lack of respect results in a lower seed. Any team in the NCAA or WNIT has to represent their conference. We've tried to schedule some SEC and ACC schools, but nobody will play us. It's tough on scheduling, especially at home. The thing is, if you beat those teams at their place, they'll drop you from the schedule. Plus, nobody wants to play us in a home-and-home series. This is our first matchup with an ACC school in my seven years at Tulane."
(on the NCAA Tournament)
"Experience definitely helps the team. The NCAA is more intense, and players put a lot more pressure on themselves. Teams feel like they have something to prove. The last couple of years, we've had to overcome our excitement in order to get focused on what we have to do in the tournament. This year, I think we're more focused."
Tulane Center Janell Burse:
(on playing against Florida State inside players)
"The biggest things I have to do are move and stay intense the whole time. Our inside game is better than it has been in the past and we have more depth on our bench."
Tulane Guard Kelly Scanlon:
(on being in the NCAA before)
"We are glad to be here. It doesn't matter where you go. Whether it's here or sunny California, we're here to play basketball. I think we have an advantage because we've all been here before except for the freshmen. We know what to expect and what the environment will be like."
Tulane Guard Sarah Goree:
(on playing against dominant scorers)
"We've played some dominant scorers before, hopefully that will give us an advantage. We played against Jackie Stiles and other people like that so it should help us out."

TULANE QUOTES
Tulane Head Coach Lisa Stockton:
"I give Florida State so much credit. It was a tremendous basketball game. I'm very proud of our team. They left it all on the floor. We had the right game plan and we held their best player to five points. Having Janelle on the bench during the first half hurt us but I'm proud of this team."
(On having Janell Burse on the bench the last 12 min. of the 1st half):
"I think it was a huge factor. I think it worked our other post too hard. I felt Florida State had a difficult time guarding Janell. She was a big key for us at the beginning."
(On being out rebounded):
"It surprised me how we got outrebounded. I felt that in the second half there were a lot of long rebounds. The first half we played man so they got a lot of inside shots and the second half they took a lot of outside shots. I think the long rebounds were definately a factor.
Tulane Center Janell Burse:
(On playing last game):
"I'm going to miss playing with these guys. I have no regrets I'm just going to miss everyone so much."
Tulane Guard Sarah Goree:
(On losing this game):
"It definately hurt more than last year. I thought we had a good chance to win and play on Sunday."
(On having Janell Burse on bench for last 12 min. of 1st half):
"I think it was more of a factor in the second half. She started off the game dominating then had to go to the bench with foul trouble and we kind of lost our inside threat."
(On when they think they lost it):
"There was that stretch where we didn't score any points for a stretch. We were taking some rushed shots. We started to come back and then Florida State hit a couple three's and I think that's where we lost it."
