Women's Tennis Cruises Into C-USA Tournament Semifinals

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - - The Tulane women's tennis team easily won three singles matches en route to a 4-0 win over DePaul in the first round of the Conference USA Women's Tennis Tournament on Friday.

Tulane, seeded second, won its fourth straight match to improve to 11-11 overall. The Wave advance to the semifinals, where they will meet third-seeded South Florida at noon on Sunday. DePaul, the tournament's seventh seed, will next face No. 6 seed Cincinnati in the backdraw.

The Wave took control of the match early, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to claim the opening doubles point. Joyce Bergman and Julie Morris were 8-6 winners over the DePaul team of Taylor and Falduto at the No. 1 spot, while Nancy Kockott and Olga Mikhailova gave Tulane a win at the No. 2 position with an 8-5 victory over the Blue Demon tandem of Keleman and Stephanie Matko.

In singles play, Anna Monhartova had little trouble against Taylor, dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the No. 1 singles spot. Bergman gave Tulane a win at the No. 3 spot, posting a 6-0, 6-3 win over DePaul's Kadi Hilpus. Anneli Axsater helped close out the match for Tulane with her 6-2, 6-3 win over Natalie Matko at the No. 6 spot.

Tulane has been perfect in singles play in each of its last four dual matches and has not dropped a singles set in three straight matches. As a team, Tulane has won 42 of its last 43 sets played in singles.

The Wave will continue at the Conference USA Tournament on Saturday against No. 3 seed South Florida.
