Ahlander Wins Triple Jump at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Tulane University has had an impressive start at the prestigious Penn Relays. The Wave had a pair of individual winners on Friday afternoon in jumping events.
Sophomore Marie Ahlander (Arsta, Sweden) won the championship of the triple jump with a career-best jump of 42-09.50, improving on her NCAA provisional qualifying time from last weekend.
In addition, senior Noel Comrie (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) matched his own personal best with a long jump of 25-00.75 to win his section of the event.
Junior Catherine Betz (Metairie, La.) had her best throw of the season in the javelin with a heave of 156-01, a season-best effort and an NCAA provisional qualifying distance.
Tulane's women's 4x200 relay team set a school record with a time of 1:34.93 in preliminary heats and has qualified for the championship round to be hled on Saturday.
Other Saturday events will include junior Nathan Junius (New Orleans, La.) in the javelin and sophomore Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) in the mile run.
