
Women's Tennis Falls to LSU

NEW ORLEANS, La. - - The Tulane women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to in-state rival LSU at the Goldring Tennis Complex on Wednesday.
LSU opened the match by winning the critical doubles point and held on for the victory after the two teams split six singles matches. The loss was Tulane's second straight after having won five in a row.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Tulane's lone doubles win came at the No. 3 spot, when Anna Monhartova and Anneli Axsater teamed to post an 8-3 win over Tami Botts and Lauren Haddix.
In singles play, four of the six singles matches extended into three sets, with the Wave capturing three of those matches. Anna Monhartova posted a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 win over LSU's Bruna Colosio at the No. 1 spot, while Julie Morris was a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 winner over Haddix at the No. 2 position. Tulane also got a win at No. 4 singles when Joyce Bergman posted a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory over Botts.
However, LSU grabbed wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to hold on for the 4-3 victory. It marked Tulane's fourth consecutive loss that ended with a 4-3 scoreline.
Tulane returns to action on Sunday, April 8, when the Green Wave play host to Conference USA rival Southern Miss at the Goldring Tennis Complex. The match is set to start at 12 p.m.
