Tulane Women's Tennis Downs Southern Miss

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane women's tennis team dropped just one set in singles play, posting a 7-0 win over Conference USA rival Southern Miss at the Goldring Tennis Complex on Sunday.
With the win, Tulane improved to 8-11. It marked the second time this season that the Green Wave has held its opponent without a point.
The Wave jumped on the board early, winning all three doubles matches to claim the opening doubles point. Anna Monhartova and Anneli Axsater made short work of USM's Molly Boutreis and Shawny Price, turning in an impressive 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles. Tulane's Joyce Bergman and Julie Morris clinched the doubles point with their 8-3 win over Jackie Prew and Patty Kundisova at No. 1 doubles. Nancy Kockott and Olga Mikhailova teamed to give Tulane a clean sweep in doubles when they posted an 8-2 victory over Marie Lindberg and Tiina Rautajoki at the No. 2 spot.
In singles play, Tulane swept all six matches, dropping just one set in the process. Anna Monhartova cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Prew at the No. 1 spot, while Nancy Kockott, playing at No. 2 singles for the first time this season, was a 6-0, 6-1 winner against Kundesova to give Tulane a 3-0 lead.
Anneli Axsater also turned in a 6-0, 6-1 result, posting a win at No. 4 singles over USM's Shawny Price to clinch the dual match win for Tulane. Lucy Wood made the team score 5-0 when she turned in a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Rautajoki at the No. 5 spot. Maiko Cook was a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Lindberg at No. 3 singles, while Olga Mikhailova rallied >from a set down to post a 5-7, 6-3, 10-8 win against Molly Boutreis at No. 6 singles.
Tulane returns to action on Tuesday, April 10, when the Green Wave play host to undefeated UNO at the Goldring Tennis Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
