NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University had 65 student-athletes named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2000-2001 academic year. To qualify, students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and participate in a conference-sponsored sport. Student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or above also receive the Commissioner's Academic Medal.
The Green Wave had seven student-athletes receive the Commissioner's Academic Medal: freshman Gerald Clark (Naperville, Ill.) from the baseball team, sophomore Britt Themann (Seattle, Wash.) from women's basketball, freshman Justin Adendorff (Cape Town, South Africa) from men's golf, senior Meyer Friedman (Franklin, La.) from men's track and field, sophomore Alycia Wanat (Plano, Texas) from women's soccer, and from the women's tennis team, junior Maiko Cook (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) and senior Anna Monhartova (Plzen, Czech Republic).
The women's tennis and men's golf teams had the most impressive representation on the Honor Roll, as women's tennis placed 80 percent (8 of 10) and men's golf had 75 percent (6 of 8) of its team members on the list.
The Green Wave baseball team, which had its most successful season ever, leading the nation in victories and advancing to the College World Series for the first time, had 12 members selected to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, the most of any team at Tulane. Included in baseball's honorees were star freshman Michael Aubrey (Shreveport, La.), a top candidate for National Freshman of the Year honors and freshman Joey Charron, the Most Outstanding Player at the New Orleans Regional Tournament.
